Wind Power Generates More Than Coal In 2016
Following the news that in 2016 wind power generated more energy than coal, Juliet Davenport, founder and CEO of Good Energy, the renewable energy company that owns the UK’s first commercial wind farm in Cornwall, said:
“This is a historic point for energy and a fantastic achievement for wind power and renewables here in the UK.
“Wind has transformed the way the UK has sourced electricity in recent years. It also shows us that the transition from big old-fashioned coal-powered stations to local, decentralised renewable sources is really moving forward.
“We must encourage the government to keep pace with the transition and not turn its back on the path to decarbonisation. That’s why we’re looking forward to the release of the government’s Emissions Reduction Plan early next year, understanding what bold steps they will put in place to limit emissions across the UK’s power, heat and transport sectors.”
