TED talks: The dawn of de-extinction. Are you ready? – Stewart Brand
Could technology allow us to reverse extinction? Stewart Brand, writer, environmentalist and founder of the Whole Earth Catalog, pondered this very question in a TED talk from February 2013.
In the early days of Blue & Green Tomorrow, we interviewed Brand about his career. In the talk, he discusses the ethical dilemmas associated with bringing back extinct species, and says the answer to de-extinction may be closer than we think.
He says, “Humans have made a huge hole in nature in the last 10,000 years. [With de-extinction,] we have the ability now, and maybe the moral obligation, to repair some of the damage.”
