Multi-Million Pound Renewables Contract Signed in Scotland
Minister for Energy, Business and Innovation Paul Wheelhouse joined Global Energy Group Chairman, Roy MacGregor, and senior executives from SSE, Siemens and Scottish Renewables for a multi-million pound contract signing at Nigg Energy Park today. The Energy Park is soon to be used during construction of an 80-turbine offshore wind farm.
WWF Scotland director Lang Banks said: “This contract highlights just some of the huge jobs benefits that will come from Scotland’s transition to a zero-carbon economy.
“The Beatrice offshore wind farm project alone will almost quadruple our offshore wind capacity, helping to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as well as creating jobs and supporting local economic renewal.
“However, to ensure that Scotland reaps the maximum benefits of becoming a zero-carbon nation, Ministers must ensure their forthcoming climate action plan contains the necessary policies needed to embrace this important transition.”
Lindsay Roberts, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said: “The contract signed today will help breathe new life into this Highland port. “Scotland’s offshore wind industry has huge potential for both our economy and our environment, and it’s great to see Nigg reaping the benefits. “As other wind farms with planning consent in the Scottish North Sea begin to develop, agreements like this will play a key role in securing benefits not just for communities on the east coast, but for the whole of Scotland.”
