POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe 2016 to Unpick the Implications of COP21
POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe, the continent’s largest conference and exhibition for power industry professionals, has unveiled this year’s conference programme. The event, which is being held under the official patronage of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, takes place 21st–23rd June 2016 in Milan, Italy and is set to provide a platform for the industry to discuss the implications of COP21.
Last year, at COP21, global leaders agreed to keep temperature rises well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100. This year, industry leaders and decision makers will come together at POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe to examine the technologies, regulations and developments that will need to be implemented to meet the targets set.
The conference will take an in-depth look at what the future holds for Europe’s power sector. Discussions will look at the impact of increased renewable generation on Europe’s energy infrastructure, and what mechanisms can be implemented to support these changes. Specialist sessions will be held to discuss where new emissions regulations will leave gas-fired and coal generation, and how market features such as demand response mechanisms and flexible generation, will play a part in Europe’s future power infrastructure.
“Following COP21, there have been headlines across the world about a new impetus for transition in the global power sector. It certainly was impressive that 200 countries were able to come together to set out a way forward to reduce global greenhouse gases, however the time has now come for the industry to go about setting out the practicalities for the deal,” said Nigel Blackaby, POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe Conference Director. “POWER-GEN Europe will bring together the industry’s key decision makers, with innovators and financers to debate, discuss and ultimately decide how we can achieve these goals.”
The conference will also focus on key technologies that are needed to drive the energy transition forward, including energy storage, innovations in flexibility, security of supply and distributed generation. There will also be a special strategic focus on hydroelectric power, a renewable energy source that is well established in Italy and surrounding countries.
Investment, as the backbone of new technology development, will be featured at this year’s POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe. Financiers will hold discussions on what products are available for new technology projects. A match-making facility will also be available to join investors with technology developers.
