CIEH React To The Government’s Approval Of A Third Heathrow Runway
Following the news that the Government has approved the third runway to expand UK airport capacity, Tony Lewis – head of Education and Policy at CIEH – commented:
“Even if the business case has now been accepted to expand Heathrow, it is imperative the inevitable environmental damage is kept within acceptable limits.
“While the Government has made some provisions to mitigate against increased noise and air pollution, we believe they do not go far enough. Air quality in London is already in breach of EU standards and a new runway is only going to make things worse.
“We strongly urge the Government to consider the disruption and negative impact on the physical and mental well-being of local communities and that minimum conditions must be met before a single plane takes off from the new runway.”
