Ecobuild 2014 to showcase the best of sustainable building at London ExCel
A coalition of businesses, government departments and sustainability experts are to gather in London for a three-day exhibition on sustainable building.
Ecobuild 2014, which opens on Tuesday, will display the work of some of the most industry’s most innovative leaders from across the world. It is hoped that the British sustainable building industry will also be showcased.
The conference will also host expert seminars, which will provide those attending with information on water, waste and materials, refurbishing and retrofit, design and green energy.
Speakers include Kevin McCloud, writer, designer and star of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, who was recently given an MBE for services to sustainable design. The developer he founded, Hab Housing, featured in Blue & Green Tomorrow’s Guide to Sustainable Homes 2013.
The journalist Janet Street-Porter and former mayor of London Ken Livingstone will also be in attendance.
Features at Ecobuild include Solar City, Practical Installer, Nature and the Built Environment, NFRC Roofing Pavilion, Lightscene, Insulating Britain and the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) Village.
The start of the event comes just a week after the UKGBC said that the British green building industry, if properly developed, could have “vast economic benefits” for the UK, including major global export opportunities.
Speaking after last year’s event, Munish Datta, part of Marks & Spencer’s Plan A initiative, said, “This year’s Ecobuild was absolutely terrific – the best to date. From the speakers, content and exhibitors to event organisation, the ‘world’s largest green building event’ has set itself a new benchmark.”
