Low Carbon Investing 2016
We’re proud to launch our latest guide exploring Low Carbon Investing. We have contributions from 3D Investing, Triodos, Alliance Trust, WHEB, Standard & Poors, iforchange and Divest Invest. Following the Paris Agreement the reduction of carbon emissions is centre stage on global, national and corporate agendas. Climate change is an existential threat, but also an opportunity for the innovators, individuals and organisations who are tackling the issue and those who invest in or support them.
We need to make a transition to a low carbon economy. As Carbon Tracker has so eloquently pointed out the Oil & Gas industry simply cannot burn the reserves they already have if we are to avoid runaway climate change. At some point divestment from Oil & Gas will turn into a rout and those shares will be effectively junk.
Not convinced? 5.5 million (GBD) to seven million (WHO) people die prematurely each year from air pollution. That’s 15,000 to 19,000 every day. Fossil fuels may seem cheap until you consider how many people are killed by burning them. It adversely affects the young, the old and the sick. Unless you hate the young, the old and the sick then maybe a bit of divestment would be a good move.
