What we can achieve with Crowdcube investment

Published

on

Yesterday we wrote about how we would use the investment raised through Crowdcube. Today we explore what it can achieve – a mainstreaming of sustainability.

We need more people to take sustainable investment and spending decisions daily. We need them to invest sustainably, spend ethically, travel responsibly and use clean energy at home and at work. SAGA has been very effective at creating a universe of 2.7m over-50s who buy the products and services that SAGA recommends. National and regional newspapers quietly make millions of pounds from their readers who buy the products and services that they recommend.

This is a called affiliate marketing (or ‘online performance marketing’), a market worth £1.1bn in the UK. In affiliate marketing the companies that brand or promote the product or service don’t produce or fulfil it. They research and choose best-in-class providers and recommend those products to their readers. In a world of near unlimited choice, a trusted recommendation is vital.

As we will only work with a heavily screened group of organisations we can provide a valuable sustainable filter for our readers. We can enable those organisations, without vast marketing budgets, to reach customers they couldn’t otherwise afford to. This is vital in our sector where many of the most ethical and responsible businesses that provide a real sustainable alternative lack the spending power of their unethical and irresponsible peers.

But volume matters and that’s why we are so focused on significantly growing our readership. A single test to a 3,600 readers generated £850, and a return of investment of 787%. As we have access to 962,000 people, we can eventually generate £230k per month.
