BICEPS Network Strengthened By Four New Shippers
The future of a sustainable shipping sector has been boosted as four global shippers, Farm Frites, IOI Loders Croklaan, Lamb Weston / Meijer and Vion Food Group join the BICEPS Network to work together with the members and partners.
Together, as the BICEPS Network, now nine shippers represent an even more significant amount of shipping demand that will be used to give a boost to change in the right direction.
Vion, a European based global food company joins the BICEPS Network, underlining their commitment: “Being a leading actor in the food supply chain comes with a responsibility that is not limited to animal welfare or traceability of products but requires attention in every field. Hence, sustainability initiatives such as BICEPS have our full support,” says Rob Lormann, Group SC Manager Logistics at Vion.
And two leading global market actors in the potato food chain, Farm Frites and Lamb Weston / Meijer join the BICEPS Network to collaborate in creating sustainable supply chains in shipping:
“Farm Frites aims to actively contribute to a dialogue with colleague shippers to combine, share and above all apply existing and new knowledge in order to achieve a sustainable supply chain and logistics operation, giving an impulse to the global shipping industry.” Johan van der Zande, COO at Farm Frites.
We actively look for opportunities to reduce our environmental impact
“We actively look for opportunities to reduce our environmental impact. And we continue to cut emissions throughout our entire value chain, by optimising our processes, implementing energy efficiency projects, and through close collaboration on new concepts with our customers and logistical partners. The BICEPS network initiative will give us new insights to reduce the CO2 emission and to raise the sustainability bar in the chain”. Gijs van Hoogstraten, Corporate Manager Logistics at Lamb Weston / Meijer.
And IOI Loders Croklaan, a global food company in quality oils and fats joins the BICEPS Network to emphasise their ambition on working together on a global level to stimulate green practices in shipping:
“IOI Loders Croklaan will contribute to the BICEPS Network by sharing and adopting best practices with the industry. We encourage an open dialogue between shippers, carriers and supply chain partners to improve sustainable shipping. Our aim is to accelerate our green principle together.” Wendy Tang, manager Shipping & Logistics at IOI Loders Croklaan.
In total the BICEPS Network has now grown to nine member shippers. The shippers in the BICEPS Network will act together in the dialogue with the shipping sector on how to create sustainable improvements and boost innovations.
All shippers will use the BICEPS Rating System in their procurement processes of their global ocean freight transports and use the actual sustainability performance of carriers as a factor in their allocation.
