Eco-friendly lifestyles are becoming a lot more common in 2019. Growing concerns over global warming are playing a huge role in the rising interest in sustainable lifestyles. One poll from Gallup earlier in the year showed that 72% of Americans feel climate change is a very important issue to them. This has spurred them to take action. A lot of people are trying to make their homes eco-friendlier.

Sustainable and renewable energy solutions in the UK are growing in prominence, increasing by two thirds over the last ten years. A lot more people are going to want to make their homes be more sustainable in the near future, but many don’t know what steps to take.

Wondering how modern developments are preparing for the future? Perhaps you just want to become a bit eco-friendlier in your own home? If you need some inspiration, here are some different ways that environmentally friendly solutions are already being used in modern properties and buildings, and some tips you might consider getting you started.

Modern developments in the city

City-centres, due to their massively concentrated populations, are some of the worst spots for pollution and carbon emissions, and that’s why many companies are already trying to come up with more efficient solutions to help keep them as healthy and sustainable as possible going into the future. These ‘Smart Buildings’ of tomorrow will use smart technology through a central system. Many features are already syncing up with each other to make sure they’re not wasting energy. One study found that smart cities can reduce GHG emissions by 10-15%.

Properties and apartments in cities across the UK are already being made with more energy efficient means and sustainable materials in mind. RW Invest, uses their state-of-the-art student property developments across Liverpool and Manchester, utilise modern architectural techniques already. This is both beneficial for the investor/landlord and the young tenant themselves, as it will allow to save money on energy spending while remaining conscious about the environment; Just one of the many benefits that comes from investing in a modern, purpose-built apartment.

Solar Electricity

Installing solar panels on the roof of a home or office building can have many benefits, including cost reduction on monthly electricity bills, low maintenance cost (after an initial installation charge), and general peace of mind that you’re sourcing your electricity from somewhere that’s a lot less harmful on the environment.

When the sun isn’t shining, and the solar panels aren’t collecting any energy, the question then falls to how best it is deemed to store the energy that has been collected. Similar to the ‘fuel’ alternative used in a lot of up-and-coming electric cars, lithium ion batteries are a popular choice, and can store power for long periods, should you not need to use it all or go long patches without good weather.

Another factor to consider is the placement of solar panels and making sure they’re the most well-placed to catch as much sunlight as possible. If you’re adding solar electricity functionally into your home, take some time to assess how your home sits in the sunlight, and position the panels so that their surface area is covered at peak times.

Consumer level solar technology is not the most reliable energy source on the planet, and so don’t worry too much if you can’t rely on it entirely, as that’s very rare. As long as you’re making strides to be more conscious with your emissions output, you’re making a positive change. Wind power is another energy alternative that is valued as one of the most important of the renewables, but having a giant wind turbine on the top of your house can be a real eyesore, and it isn’t commercially viable currently.

Sustainable Homeownership is a Major Focus in 2019

Homeowners around the world are becoming more concerned than ever about sustainability. They are investing in new technology that will help lower their carbon footprints and make things easier. Fortunately, people can do their part to lower their carbon footprint relatively easily. They just have to take the right steps.
