Investment term of the day: absolute return

dictionary By doctor-a via stock.xchng

The absolute return measures the gain or loss of a portfolio as a percentage of invested capital. It looks at the appreciation or depreciation that an asset achieves over a defined period of time.

Investment strategies should target a return that is above zero and in some cases aim to outperform a benchmark.
