TED talks: save the oceans, feed the world – Jackie Savitz
Saving the oceans can help feed the world, says Jackie Savitz, a vice-president at ocean conservation group Oceana, in this week’s featured TED talk.
In an eye-opening talk at the independently-organised TEDxMidAtlantic last year, Savitz explains the distressing situation the world’s fish stocks are in. Importantly, though, she outlines a series of clever ways that fisheries can be replenished, all the while providing food for millions of people across the globe.
She concludes, “We know that we can manage our fisheries sustainably. We know that we can produce healthy meals for hundreds of millions of people that don’t use the land, that don’t use much water, have a low carbon footprint, and are cost-effective. We know that saving the oceans can feed the world, and we need to start now.”
