Being passionate about green living doesn’t mean that you can’t have a great time when you go to one of the most beautiful places in the world. Last year, The Center for Responsible Travel shared a list of tips for traveling green in this beautiful part of the world.

The Caribbean is often misunderstood for being a cold and dark place owing to what you might see in the movies, the real fact around it is the complete opposite. If you are planning for a luxurious vacation in Caribbean, it is not surprising that you need to try out new things while in a new place. The Caribbean has a lot to offer so it goes without saying that you need to delve into some of the primary things that one just can’t miss out on while in the beautiful place. If you thought that the majestic islands of the Caribbean have nothing more to offer rather than sunbathing, you are mistaken.

It isn’t just beautiful though. It has recently earned a reputation for being a green place to live and travel. In 2015, the United Nations published an environmental report showing that this region was leading the way for green living. This means that ecotourists shouldn’t have any trouble finding things to do that don’t leave a huge carbon footprint.

Swim with the stingrays

Many people want to go on long cruises around the Caribbean. Of course, the boats are terrible for the environment due to all the pollutants and carbon emissions that they release. You can find a better way to take care of the environment by swimming with the stingrays.

As challenging and scary as it might sound, Grand Cayman is an amazing spot to do that if you have always have had it on your bucket list. You do have stingray city trips that you can opt for to get the whole experience sorted out for you. These trips take you up to the spots where you can touch as well as feed a plethora of stingrays in the place. If getting into the water is scaring you, hop onto a glass-bottomed boat and you can see them through that as well.

Hike through a cloud forest

Hiking is another way to enjoy the Caribbean without leaving a carbon footprint. Puerto Rico is known around for its majestic forests and beautiful lush greenery all around and if that is something that entices you as well, hiking through a cloud forest is definitely something you do need to indulge in while you are in there. The El Yunque rainforest is most possibly one of the highest rainforests around which can provide you with not just an experience but a breathtaking view as well. For the best experience, take the Mt. Britton trek route and you won’t be disappointed at all.

Go painting

Do you have an artistic streak? Then there is another way to have fun without hurting the environment. Yet another one of the amazing things that you can indulge in while in the Caribbean is going painting in Jamaica. This place is a very quaint and comfortable spot if you want to visit someplace quiet and not rough around the edges. There are art camps that are held often that you can indulge in while you are there. If you have some spare time, just ensure to indulge in some amazing skinny dipping in the cold and crystal-clear water around the place. Many of these paints are nontoxic, so you won’t hurt the environment in the process.

Get a submarine tour

While in the Caribbean, it is not a surprise that you are going to be visiting Aruba. The submarine tour around in Aruba is quite famous. The best part of this is the fact that these submarines are predominantly and specifically made for the sightseeing underwater which makes it one of the best experiences that you can possibly gather from around there. If you don’t know how to swim and have been looking for ways to try out seeing the amazing underwater life, this is an amazing alternative.

Dive in Curacao

If you have heard of the Caribbean, you must have heard of Curacao too. You don’t need to travel far to get there, which means that you won’t have to use a lot of carbon emissions in the process.  Often a place known for its coral reefs, this spot is something out of a fantasy novel during the full moon night. Once every year, during a full moon night, predominantly during the late September month, the entirety of the coral reef species around release millions of spawned eggs, thus lighting up the entire place. Diving into that is an experience like no other.

If you’re looking to explore Curacao’s wonders beyond its reefs, consider embarking on a thrilling jet ski excursion along its stunning coastline, where you can witness not just the beauty beneath the waves but also the breathtaking sights along the shorelines.

Dive with sharks

The Bahamas is also another one of the popular tourist spots in the Caribbean. If you are there and need some ideas on what activity you can indulge in, diving with the sharks is definitely one of them. This scuba diving experience with the sharks is something that you don’t necessarily get anywhere else and if you want to check it off of your bucket list, this is the opportunity to do so. You can do this without leaving a lot of carbon emissions as well.

Learn about volcanoes

You may find it odd that you can look at volcanoes without hurting the environment. Although they release lots of carbon and heat into the atmosphere, they are natural so you don’t have to worry about it just by looking at them. If this side of nature entices you, you definitely need to visit Montserrat which is famous for its amazing Montserrat Volcano Observatory. You can watch the rumbling volcano with a binocular or even go ahead and take a boat to Plymouth and see the place for yourself to learn more about the history and the activities regarding the volcanoes.

Do bird watching

Trinidad is yet another spot that you can definitely indulge visiting while in the Caribbean. If you are wondering what to do while there, bird watching is actually an amazing option to venture into. It is actually a natural aviary given the fact that it falls on the migratory route. Piping guan, bearded bellbird, and even scarlet ibis are some of the species of birds that you can witness around that place.

Take an aerial tram

Who would have even thought of aerial trams, right? With the beautiful city of Dominica, even that is possible. It has a hanging gondola which is a mode of transportation through a mile in the rainforest which is situated at the edge of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.

Given the fact that the Caribbean is spread around such a large and wide area, it goes without saying that you can indulge in a number of activities while you are there. If there are tours and such involved, it is always best suggested to ensure that you avoid making all last-minute bookings because the same does have the potency of ending up causing chaos altogether, not to mention the price hike as well.

Enjoy the Caribbean Without Hurting the Environment

The Caribbean is one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit. There are plenty of ways to enjoy it without harming the environment. Consider the options above instead of going on a cruise.
